Ras_elAin

RAS EL'AIN: The Turks interned enemy aliens and POW's in Ras el'Ain during the Great War. The town was located in the Vilayet of Aleppo in northwestern Mesopotamia. Ras el'Ain was situated on the Khabur River, sixty-five miles south-southeast of Ourfa and seventy-one miles west of Nisibin. The Turks sent British prisoners of war from Afion Karahissar to Ras el'Ain in August 1917 to work on the railroad line from Aleppo across the Syrian Desert.
